Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 offers a solid update to the Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the other members of the productivity suite. Though the latest package is still not on par with the Windows. Update Office from the Mac App Store. If you downloaded Office from the Mac App Store, and have automatic updates turned on, your apps will update automatically. But you can also manually download the updates: Open the Mac App Store from your Dock or Finder.

Office 2011 will not run on Big Sur, and I am not going to pay Microsoft a yearly fee for another Office License. I already own multiple copies of Office. This also raises my concern about other El Capitan apps not working on Big Sur. Is it possible to use my Time Machine backups to load El Capitan on the new iMac. Microsoft releases security and quality updates for the Click-To-Run (C2R) version of Office 2016 and for Office 2019, which is exclusively C2R. These updates are released approximately once a month, usually on the second Tuesday of the month.
If you'd like to verify that you're up to date, check your Office version number and manually update Office if necessary. To check your version of Office, do the following:
- Open any Office application, such as Word or Excel.
- Choose File > Account.
- Under Product Information, note the version number under the About section.
If the version number matches the most current version, you're up to date. If not, you can manually update to get the latest version of Office. To update Office, follow these steps.
